FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"Only in the Castro" Film distributed to public TV stations for Gay & Lesbian Pride Month

emailRick Bacigalupi, producer

San Francisco, May 1, 2009. "Only in the Castro with Trevor Hailey" is a lighthearted, poignant and touching half-hour film that pays homage to beloved tour guide and San Francisco personality Trevor Hailey, whose 15-year vocation was to take visitors on a journey through the historic locations of San Francisco's famed Castro District and to entertain her guests with lively stories about the world's most celebrated gay neighborhood.

Narrated by award-winning comedian Marga Gomez and featuring cameo appearances by local luminaries such as colorful former mayor Willie Brown and "Tales of the City" author Armistead Maupin, the film serves as both an homage to feisty ambassador Trevor, and an intimate look into a neighborhood that caught recent international attention due to the success of the Oscar-winning film "MILK."

The film lets us taq along with Trevor as she visits the landmark places--and people--that define the extraordinary neighborhood, including the palatial Castro Theater and the storefront once used by slain gay rights activist and politician Harvey Milk, whose portrayal gained Sean Penn an Oscar at the 2009 Academy Awards. On every corner Trevor runs into colorful friends and fans who stop her for hugs and catching up. "The Castro is just my little Gay America USA!" she beams.

Throughout the tour, Trevor confronts stereotypes and clarifies misconceptions held by the straights and gays alike that take her tour. When she announces her retirement, the community throws her a send-off party complete with recognitions from the City Board of Supervisors and California State Assembly.

The film stays true to Trevor's mission. Her life work was to promote tolerance and understanding. "What I want people to walk away with," says Hailey at the close of the film, "is the fact that Gay is good; Gay is love."

Produced in partnership with the GLBT Historical Society, "Only in the Castro" is a project of Emmy Award-winning producer Rick Bacigalupi's independent production company, BaciPix (www.BaciPix.com). It was an Official Selection of the 31st annual San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival. Sadly, Trevor unexpectedly passed away a few days before the screening she planned to attend. A remastered version of the show is set to air on PBS affiliate KQED for Gay Pride on Saturday June 27, 2009 at 6PM. The National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) will also be distributing it to public TV stations across the country.
